If you're looking for something edgy, why not invest in a fur-trimmed skirt or coat? Designers decorated everything this fall with fur hems. Anna Sui was channeling Doctor Zhivago in her show that included mink trim on the hem of a red and white Russian styled dress. It was striking and probably warm for your legs since the skirt was very short!

Burberry Prorsum, and J. Mendel trimmed dresses and coats in fur. Mendel's mink-edged velvet referenced the early sixties. Adding weight to the hems changes completely the way the fabric moves and the way you move in the fabric. My favorite was the burgundy broadtail coat with fox trim at the seams that echoed the bubble shapes of the season. His evening dresses with fur trim on the hems were also magnificently indulgent. Oscar de la Renta had a similar idea: knee-length skirts, alternately embellished with rosettes and trimmed in fur. He did lots of fur coats too - lippi-cat and chinchilla coats with puffed three-quarter-length sleeves and swingy full skirts were two of his runway's most covetable pieces.

Burberry Prosrsm gave raincoats a new twist. Stella Tennant opened the show in a rumpled classic old Burberry Mac that was luxed up with thick bands of fox at the hems and cuffs. Another fun raincoat option was his fur trimmed cream quilted raincoat but the black quilted raincoat with fur trimmed hems and cuffs was coat to buy. Another fun coat is Michael Kors's plaid coat with a wide fur finish on the bottom. He was inspired by the East Coast and the Harvard stomping grounds of Love Story's Ali MacGraw. This coat is a perfect mix of tony chic and all-American prep. But Akris wins the prize for the biggest fur hem - the fluffy brown fur trim takes up half of the bottom of the coat. With all the short skirts this season, a fur trimmed skirt and coat is not just an option but a necessity!
