Have you seen last week's men's shows? Well it looks like we're all in for a cheap thrill for this winter and into the spring - men in shorts! So the shorts look' is more than just a summer fling. But only two edgy designers during the Fall/Winter 2006 men's collections showed men in shorts - and they were wearing their shorts with furs. The combination didn't look as odd as you might think. Thom Brown's was first to jump on the 'men in shorts' bandwagon last February took men in tight shorts to an extreme. He showed rosy-cheeked macho men in shrunken suits. The men all wore roller skates and we could all ogle over their legs in shorts as they wore tight knee length shorts and little coats with a high belt that look like boarding school clothes for stuffy English boys. One skater wore a short pants tuxedo with a fur coat. Another wore a beaver stole- almost like a blanket thrown over his chest (possibly for a cold evening at the drive in?) over his gray cashmere flannel shorts suits. That was my favorite. Browne added much longer coats for the winter season, because after all, legs can get cold in those cutoffs! Gaultier, as it turns out, is another fan of shorts. He showed short pants worn with heavy biker leather jacket and a fur collar. (For summer motorcycle trips, I imagine). Then he showed a lightweight wool coat with a thin tan fur collar, thrown over a polo outfit. It was so right for polo in the Hamptons! But like Browne, he also showed the 'pelt' as summer accessory. Gaultier's clothes were just spectacular for showing off men's legs especially the skirt pants!!!, the sailor pants and the trench coat with a zip off skirt. Legs RULE! |
