Of the smattering of fur pieces shown in the Paris Spring 2005 Ready-to-Wear collections, two stood out and made up for the relative lack of spectacular fur. Sonia Rykiel's collection perpetuated her truly French style. For example, she showed an acid-green linen dress trailing strands of marabou, then a pink floral organza tea dress with fluttery hems and sherbet colored fur pompon attached to the dress front. My favorite was a champagne satin thirties-look evening dress with a fabulous taupe-y colored wrap vest. It was an inspiration to see her artfully accessorize her colorful fur pieces.

John Galliano made one very small but remarkably effective statement with fur.

The other fur moment in the Paris shows worth noting was at John Galliano's show. His theme this year referenced iconic society figure, Barbara Hutton - sort of society meets grunge hippie. Every glamorous evening dress - lime green ruffled dresses and swirling psychedelic floral coats accessorized with a lone pair of grunge-y, thong tied, flat but gorgeous fur boots. An unexpectedly hip twist and sure to be the must-have boot next spring.
