The ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) in New York last month was “hell bent for leather.” It seemed that every where you looked, there was another beautifully designed modern leather chair. What’s more, most of these sleek and sumptuous seats were created by Danish or Italian designers.

Danish company Danerka’s office chair elevated the idea of the office chair with a new family of chairs - Addit. The Addit chair is based on innovative design and materials - the idea is basically to live up to the demands that a workplace places on chairs - so the chairs stack, wipe down, wear well -all while looking elegant and stylish. The Addit chairs focus on functionality and aesthetics and have no visible rivets or screws to interrupt the clean lines. (danerka.com). My all -time favorite though is Danerk’as red chrome framed desk chair - but I think it might be way too attractive and stylish for corporate America!

Italian company Michieli showed a beautiful creamy butter colored leather chair and table (from their FUTURE collection, michieli.com). The leather seat has chrome frame and armrests and sits low to the ground on a firm thick cushion that is covered in the softest leather. The chair is modern and functional but somehow still manages to look classic and comfortable. Another beautiful Italian leather club chair is Moro’s evolution (the CHIC line, moros.it) but it’s got a modern twist so it appears very chic, with its high back and rich cherry leather.

My choice, though for most innovative use of leather is the leather toilet roll holder from Turnstyle Designs, also from England (turnstyle-designs.com). Turnstyle makes leather hardware. Whatever you want in leather can be made to measure -from hand-stitched kitchen cabinet handles, to leather doorknobs and even leather accented toothbrush holders. All you’ll need next is a leather toilet seat and you really can have leather everywhere you go!
