![]() The only thing outrageous about London Fashion Week was how late the shows were. Shows scheduled for 8 or 8:30 would routinely start two or more hours late. So was it worth the wait? Sadly, not. While, there were some fashion high points, the furs were few and far between. A few shows did stand out, however, and Jasper Conran's was one of those. His collection, based on a cinematic chic of the ’60s, showed a black shearling coat picked out with narrow bands of white leather worn with slingbacks and smart little tweed coats with shearling collars. Unexpected and lovely were the delicate powder-puff-pink dresses that burst into layers of ostrich at the skirt. Saga furs sponsored Julian Macdonald's show, which explains why he showed the most expansive range of fur jackets all week - lots of patchwork jackets and a gorgeous white fur 3/4-length coat. For everyday wear Nicole Farhi showed some elegant coats trimmed with deep fur collars that lay flat and wide on the lapel. She also showed reversed rabbit skin coats and distressed leather jackets. Otherwise, furs made rare appearance like at Clements Ribeiro who showed one high-waisted A-line coat with fur lining. And Paul Smith's showed a chocolate bomber with fur trimmed hood. That's all folks. But that's OK, there's always Milan! Stay tuned. |
