![]() BOLD is the keyword for this year's top fur looks from the international ready-to-wear collections. They're big, in your face and daring. Designers defied expectations and pumped up their use of fur with floor-sweeping, voluminous and luscious pelts. This is not the classic, fur-trimmed trench coats or demure-collared cardigans of the past. Christian Dior offered chinoiserie lined in sable. Ungaro took a walk on the wild side with tiger-striped fur. Spaniard Manuel Fernandez, who showed in New York City, played it innovative with a denim-look napa-finished trouser suit of rabbit. At Anna Sui, Louis Vuitton and Christian Lacroix, rich bohemian furs ruled. Prada produced a fur bomber in its own signature look, while the Fendi and Cavalli collections pushed the extreme, Cavalli with blinding white mink and Fendi with an audacious train of chinchilla. Rock and roll looks from Julien McDonald offered plenty of flash but accessibility too. While the trend toward more full-length furs slipped into the conservative on some runways, these designers made bold furs look modern and gorgeous again. |
