![]() Not all celebs wore fur for its glamour quotient in 2001. Young Hollywood's A-list -- Leelee Sobieski, Liv Tyler, Julia Stiles, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett, Kate Hudson, Chloe Sevigny and more -- made fur their own, and not by wearing cascades of mink and sable. Instead, they took cues from designers and opted for funkier, more casual furs, shearling furs, fur-lined and trimmed wraps, vests, hippie coats and other vintage-inspired pieces that were frou-frou free. A glimpse of award-winning Lenny Kravitz at the My VH1 Music Awards wearing a fox-pieced vest and a major rock-and-roll attitude showed musicians know how to make fur work for them too. Destiny's Child seconded that emotion wearing fur-trimmed snowbunny outfits to the Rockefeller Center tree lighting ceremony. Britney Spears might have toyed with becoming a PeTA poster girl (she won't bare all for the animal activist group after all), but she still wore plenty of fur this year, most notably a vintage hippie coat at the Late Show With David Letterman. While superglam stoles still looked right on the red carpets in 2001, gone are the days when fur was only for divas or the over-40 crowd. Last year's ghetto fabulous looks seem like they're trying too hard. Hollywood starlets are now using fur to express their own fashion sense, which this year was just plain fun. |
