Just what do fur consumers think of the retail experience? Were the furriers they bought from fabulous or duds? That's what furs.com continues to ask everyone who visits our home page, and the beginning of the new year seems the appropriate time to publish the comments we've received.

Positive e-mails outnumber negative ones by far. We don't know if that means visitors to furs.com are just such big fur fans, that buying a fur is always a great experience; or, maybe people who are unhappy with their purchase just aren't interested in furs anymore.

What's clear from reading the following group of opinions is that fur consumers appreciate the following: great service, selection, modern styles, friendly sales associates (as in not snobby or snotty), good quality and value for the price.

Most important of all is the element of trust. Two different e-mails from people thousands of miles apart remembered the phrase, "If you don't know your furs, know your furrier." In a retail atmosphere of dubious discounts and fly-by-night operations, these consumers put an emphasis on trust.

Which serves as an interesting lead-in to the fact that only one letter talks about a department store fur salon. Draw your own conclusions.

Curiously, we did not receive reviews of retailers outside North America (except Fendi, which is world-wide). Furs.com regularly receives visitors from all over the world.

Keep sending in your reviews. We are planning to make this a regular, interactive feature of furs.com in the near future.

Note that each letter is listed with the return e-mail address, writer's name if given, and the month it was sent. E- mails that appear to be from fur industry members have not been included, but furs.com bears no responsibility if a glowing review has been written and sent by an unknown friend or relative of the retailer. Also, the following should not be viewed as endorsements or criticisms from furs.com.

Retailers are listed in alphabetical order, except when reviews mention multiple retailers; these are at the end.
