Think holiday dreams shouldn't be reserved for children? Do you swoon over the finest cashmere and fantasize about fur?

Gus Goodman, Inc., which has spent decades quietly making fur trims worn by such style icons as Jacqueline Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor and Princess Grace, this year introduced its own collection of fur-trimmed cashmere separates.

Called Buonuomo (sounds like the Italian buon, meaning good, as in buon giorno, plus uomo, meaning man) the line is designed by David Goodman, third generation talent in the New York City-based fur company. Goodman specialized in creatingfur-lined outerwear for casual American lifestyles in the 1980s. Now he has combined his no-nonsense design practicality with the finest cashmere knits and fur trims.

Buy one, and you have a classic with a touch of extra drama. Coordinate cardigans or knit coats with matching skirts, dresses, slacks, tunics, turtleneck and jewel-neck tops, and you have reinvented your wardrobe in the most effortless, comfortable and luxurious way possible.

Start mixing and matching, and Buonuomo offers more than 50 ensembles. Color is key, with more than 24 different shades of dyed fox available alone, plus natural tones.

And since this is, after all, the most decadent form of sweater dressing, the look can be changed according to fit. Worn tunic-loose, these cashmeres offer a sensuous caress paired with the carefree ease of a favorite sweatshirt. Sized closer to the body and you get a va-va-va-voom look, as this year's Miss Universe, Mpule Kwelagobe, found out when she came to the Gus Goodman showroom to pick out some pieces to wear for her official royal appearances.

Launched last May in the company's first formal fashion show, Buonuomo has taken off in stores that appreciate the Goodman family's reputation for quality craftsmanship. In fact, David Goodman has been making personal appearances with the collection across the United States nearly every weekend since August.

"The response has been fabulous. Far more than I ever dreamed," Goodman told furs.com. "There have been a couple of surprises. Of our three qualities of cashmere, the most expensive, Italian line, is selling the best. And, people are buying the whole outfits instead of just single cardigans. It's gratifying that they like the concept of coordinating everything."

The Buonuomo collection consists of boldly colorful cashmere from Scotland paired with dyed-to-matched chinchilla or mink trim, plus Italian cashmere in sophisticated tones of gray, taupe, black and cream, with collar and cuffs of fox, mink, chinchilla and sable. Retail prices range from $650 to $5,000.

Buonuomo II, a more affordable line, offers cashmere from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, in twin sets of black or gray set with brightly colored fox collars. Retail prices range from $200 to $600.

Easy Add-On Furs

Want to add a colorful fur trim to any outfit without making it permanent? Buonuomo's twisted fox accessories blend limitless colors and fashion for an affordable, glamorous look.

"There really is no one word to describe a Twist-i-Fur," says designer David Goodman. "Depending on how one ties, wraps or twists it, it can become a scarf, a fling, a boa or a fur trim for evening or outerwear."

Goodman uses a new technique to twist together virtually any two colors of fox -- pastels, bright neons, earth tones and naturals for trademarked Twist-i-Fur accessories. They work great with Buonuomo cashmeres, and they're an easy way to add holiday pizazz to any outfit.
