Copenhagen, Denmark -- The legendary Tivoli Gardens were open this winter for the first time in their history, providing a magical setting for several of the world's top designers to display their fur fashion innovations. A show spectacular on December 16 commemorated the tenth anniversary of the Saga International Design Center (SIDC), the cutting-edge fur design and product development center operated by Saga Furs of Scandinavia. The event attracted fashion industry leaders from New York to Hong Kong. More than 500 guests watched a unique outdoor show staged with dazzling special effects. The catwalk was suspended over a frozen lake, while firestorms and fireworks added to the excitement, but the main event was the designs themselves. From the sexiest evening wear by Versace to the bright, colorful designs of Tristan Webber; from Torrente's extreme elegance to the high energy of Jean-Paul Gaultier; from the luxurious couture interpretations by John Galliano and Alexander McQueen for Givenchy to the innovations of the Design Center, the show featured unexpected uses of fur and often previously unseen implementations of new techniques. Each of these forward-looking fashions was created in Saga mink or Saga fox and demonstrated the versatility of fur as a fashion material. "The fashion show was the best visual statement of Saga's strategy," explained Ulrik Kirchheiner, president of Saga Furs. "It was the demonstration of what fur has become and what its future looks like." Many of the multitude of designers featured in the show found their inspiration in new fur working techniques developed at SIDC. The SIDC's goal, since its opening in 1988, has been to educate and inspire the hundreds of working designers and student designers from all over the world who have been invited to study there. Located on the outskirts of Copenhagen, the Design Center is the only one of its kind to bring together designers and trend-setters from all over the world to help shape the future of mink and fox products. Saga Furs of Scandinavia is the world's largest fur marketing organization, representing fur farmers from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. |
