While we can all cheer the return of luxury and feel-good fashion this year, we shouldn't forget what we wear most: great, knockabout sportswear. A dramatic mink coat or a slinky fox stole is the perfect complement to a martini and cigar, but what about adding a little luxury to everyday life? One of the strongest points of this year's fur collections was the fact that furriers aren't taking their product quite so seriously anymore; sportswear is not just a trend for now, but it's a terrifically modern way to think about fur into the new millennium.

Of course, sportswear is an attitude and not an athletic event. But in preparing this feature, Fur Age established one rule of thumb for picking garments: how would they look set in the park and paired with jeans? The results bear considerable variety: a fox chubby; a suede-out persian lamb; two fur- trimmed leathers; a braided, sheared muskrat; a fur-trimmed microfiber; a trimmed and lined plaid wool jacket; and even a curly shearling skirt jacket (and boot-toppers, sans jeans but sporty all the same). Great for when casual still means quality, style and a little luxury.
