Fur for New York
The Greater Fur New York Association's new ad campaign debuted last week in New York City. This artwork, with the slogan, "Some women never fake it," will appear on bus shelters and billboards. The animal rights group Friends of Animals has ads against fur currently running on the sides of buses.

Ivana Fur
Ivana Trump was targeted by animal rights activists last week because of her appearance on the cover of Fur Age's 1995 Folio. Activists drummed up media attention when they stormed her Fifth Avenue office in New York Nov. 2. The photo features Trump wearing a rare natural canary Russian sable coat by Dennis Basso. Trump appeared wearing the coat on the runway in the designer's press week show last May.

Uber-trouble
Yet another supermodel has bared it all for PeTA's (People for the ethical Treatment of Animals) "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" campaign, and this time around, she might end up paying for it. New York magazine reported last week that Nadja Auermann and star photographer Patrick Demarchelier are in hot water with designer Karl Lagerfeld for their turn with PeTA. It seems the team were recently paid big bucks to produce Lagerfeld's Sun, Moon & Stars fragrance campaign. Lagerfeld is one of PeTA's favorite targets because of his love of fur (he designs both the Fendi collection and one under his own name, for Maximilian at Bloomingdale's).
Just how does Auermann explain her hypocrisy?
"I don't think she even thought about it," New York quoted her representative.

Harf Memorial
The fur industry continues to remember skin dealer Ronald Harf by supporting the Ronald Harf Memorial Fund For Biomedical Research in HIV/AIDS at the American Foundation for AIDS Research (AmFAR). Established by the friends and family of Ron Harf, the fund provides Ronald Harf Memorial Scholar Awards, which are made to outstanding young scientists pursuing original, basic science research projects in HIV/AIDS.
Samuel C. Kayman, Ph.D. is the current recipient of the award. He is conducting research at the Laboratory of Retroviral Biology, Public Health Research Institute, New York City.
Gifts to the Fund at AmFAR will add new strength to the effort to fight AIDS. Make checks payable to: Ronald Harf Memorial/AmFAR.
